Cruising from Singapore

In this vlog series, we embarked on a cruise and stay package from Singapore. In this first part of our trip report we cover travelling to Singapore from London, staying in Singapore and boarding the Quantum of the Seas for our 4-night cruise.

Planning a Cruise from Singapore

Organizing a cruise can be a stress. Organizing a cruise from a distance and unknown country like Singapore is even worse! You have to organise flights, transfers, hotels and the cruise itself while navigating an unknown city and new culture.

For this trip we partnered with Vision Cruise. Vision Cruise organized our entire experience for us into a easily manageable package.

The package including flights to and from Singapore, transfers within Singapore, two nights hotel in Singapore including breakfast, two full-day tours in Singapore and our 4-night cruise on Quantum of the Seas.

The package made the whole experience seamless and easy. We received our itinerary a few weeks before our departure and Vision Cruise was on hand to answer any questions we had.

We begin our journey at the Staybridge Suites Heathrow Airport. We booked this outside our package with Vision Cruise as had to visit London the day before our flight. Read our review of the Staybridge Suites Heathrow Airport here.

Our flight to Singapore with Qantas was comfortable despite the 4-hour delay due to technical issues out of Qantas' control. The staff were friendly, the food was great and the seats where roomy. Both of us managed to get a few hours sleep and enjoyed the onboard entertainment.

Arriving into Singapore

As we arrived in Singapore feeling tired but excited. We passed through immigration and was provided with an Entry Confirmation receipt. You must keep this safe as you need it for your departure from the country.

We collected our bags and made our way to the exit where our friendly guide Kenneth was waiting for us. Kenneth introduced himself and directed us to our private car. Soon we were whizzing past the skyscrapers and beautiful skyline of Singapore on to our hotel.

During this time Kenneth handed out copies of itinerary and went through what was planned for the upcoming days. He was happy to answer any questions we had and recommended places to eat around our hotel. He was also very knowledgeable about the city and gave us a wonderful introduction to his home country.

Singapore before cruise

We arrived at the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore and Kenneth helped us check-in, making sure we had everything we needed and confirmed our pick-up time the next day.

The Rendezvous Hotel Singapore was a wonderful base for our time in the city. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel had many bars and restaurants around plus good transport links into the city.

After a fantastic night’s sleep in the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, we made our way to the restaurant for breakfast. Breakfast consisted of typical western breakfast dishes and eastern dishes. The breakfast was self-service with an egg station for omelettes.

Kenneth and our driver were prompt and was already waiting in the lobby for us when we left breakfast to return to our room. We had a full day of tours planned which we will go into detail in a later post.

After other great nights sleep at the Rendezvous Hotel we were excited to begin our cruise. Check out was a breeze and Kenneth met us to take us to the cruise port.

Boarding Quantum of the Seas

Arrival at the port was very easy and well organized. We pulled up to the port and Kenneth assisted with dropping off our bags. At this point, it was time to say goodbye to our guide until we returned from the cruise.

When arriving at the port, remember to have all your documents on you to make the process even smoother. You will need your passport, boarding tickets and a credit card to put on file.

We also had to go through Singapore immigration showing the receipt we were issued when we arrived in the country at the airport.

We then handed our passports to the ship's security team for them to keep until the end of the cruise. We have never experienced this before on a cruise but were assured that this is a normal procedure for this sailing.

Finally, it was time to board Quantum of the Seas.

Quantum of the Seas Boarding Day Tips

There are a couple of things you should do as soon as you board the ship.

1. Book any reservations you would like so you do not miss out. Connect to the ships Wi-Fi and launch the Royal Caribbean app. On here you can reserve;

  • Shows
  • Laser tag
  • Bumper cars
  • The North Star – fee applied on our sailing.
  • RipCord by iFly –fee applied on our sailing.
  • Dining
  • Other Activities

You must do this as soon as you board as reservations for the shows and laser tag run out quick.

2. If you would like to make any changes to your dining this is the time to do it. You can do this by visiting the maître d who will be in one of the dining rooms. Requests are on a first-come basis so we recommend doing this as soon as you can. We were able to change our dining time and request a table for two in the main dining room.

3, If you are travelling with children, sign them into the children’s clubs. Always sign them up, even if they do not want to attend, as it is easier if they change there mind later. You can also use this time to tour the clubs with them and get to know the onboard team.
