Where to stay in Honolulu Before or After Your Cruise
When it comes to choosing accommodations in Honolulu, you'll find a wide range of options to suit every budget and preference. If you are wondering where to stay in Honolulu, here are a few recommendations for where to stay before or after your cruise:
Waikiki Beach
Distance to cruise port: 20 minutes
Located in the heart of Honolulu, Waikiki Beach is a popular choice for visitors due to its stunning ocean views, proximity to attractions, and a plethora of hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals. Staying in Waikiki allows you to easily explore the area's vibrant nightlife, world-class shopping, and delicious dining options. Waikiki Beach is just steps away, you can enjoy leisurely strolls along the shore and breathtaking sunsets.
The downside is the "Vegas Feel" of Waikiki, as well as the more expensive prices compared to other parts of Honolulu.
We stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort. It was conveniently located within walking distance to the area's many restaurants and bars. The rooms were spacious with cozy beds and a large balcony. However, there were some negatives such as the noise from nearby bars, no beach view from our room, and an expensive price tag for what we received.
Downtown Honolulu
Distance to cruise port: 0 minutes
If you prefer a more urban setting, Downtown Honolulu is an excellent choice for your stay. Not only does it offer a mix of modern high-rise hotels and charming boutique accommodations, but it also provides easy access to the cruise terminals. This convenient proximity means that you can seamlessly transition from your hotel to your cruise ship without any stress or hassle. In addition to its accessibility, Downtown Honolulu boasts a myriad of attractions, including the iconic Iolani Palace, the State Capitol building, and the vibrant Chinatown. Immerse yourself in the local culture, explore historical landmarks, wander through captivating shopping districts, and indulge in delightful culinary experiences. Downtown Honolulu truly has it all, making it a perfect base for your pre or post-cruise adventures.
Ko Olina
Distance to cruise port: 40 minutes
Located on the western coast of Oahu, Ko Olina offers a tranquil and luxurious retreat away from the bustling city center. This resort community boasts pristine beaches, lush golf courses, and a variety of upscale accommodations. Enjoy world-class amenities, indulge in spa treatments, and unwind in breathtaking oceanfront pools. Ko Olina also offers convenient access to Pearl Harbor, making it an ideal choice for history enthusiasts.
North Shore
Distance to cruise port: 45-60 minutes
For a more laid-back and surf-centric experience, head to the North Shore of Oahu. Known for its legendary waves and picturesque beaches, this area offers a more relaxed atmosphere. Stay at a charming beachfront cottage or a boutique hotel, and enjoy the slower pace of life. The North Shore is also famous for its shrimp trucks and food stands, where you can savor delicious local cuisine.
No matter where you choose to stay in Honolulu, remember to book in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure the best accommodations for your pre or post-cruise stay.
